Originally Volatility Mass was developed by Thomas Stridsman, who used it in combination with two averages (the original version has been published with more explanation below: Volatility Mass Stridsman )
It does not use the average for trend estimation, but the volatility quality of the slope. To reduce the number of signals (which can be huge if the VQ is not filtered), some versions like this we use the pips filter. This version uses a percentage of ATR (average true range) instead. The reason is:
Furthermore, this version was designed to oscillate around the neutral line (which makes the potential levels, even in the original Stridsman version, questionable and unnecessary)
When using this indicator, you can use color changes as signals
