Trend Trading (RSI + William's %R)

author EAcpu | 2 reads | 0 comments |
Hi,

For a few days I have been playing with a simple EA that will enter longs and shorts using the RSI trend detection criteria and enter trades based on %Williams'. Entry settings are based on:

Trend detection:
T1. The RSI range is trending downward between 10 - 50
T2. RSI ranges between 50 - 90 and is trending upward

Entry point:
E1. T1 - %R peak > -20 when selling
E2. %R peak < -80 at T2 - Buy

Attached are self-explanatory pictures

TP and SL are fixed

  1. SL = 250*points
  2. TP = 350*points

I mostly use 15M charts and do about 150-200 trades in a year on just one pair - not much, but you can do a lot using all possible pairs.
I even tried looking for trading times but didn't find much

After many backtests, it has been proven that it can be profitable in the professional field.

But there is a but:
Initially I tried using the default 14 period RSI and %W. Then I realized that I got better results when using 13 periods, and then I realized that the optimal IndPeriod changes over time. Like this year 13 is the best but last year or quarter it was 16.
It was originally supposed to be a simple EA, but then I decided to play with it too: breakeven at profit, batch optimization, risk management, trading times, and it became quite a complex robot

This is where I get stuck and I think I need some help.
1. Do you think we can optimize the robot "online" to some extent for future IndPeriods? Do you like the closed loop after 3 months of optimization and re-tuning for next month?
2. Do you think there are some standards that can filter out bad setups and increase profits?
3. Do you have any other comments or suggestions?
The EA comes with a good setup for USD/JPY this year, if you like you can try it out and let me know what you think

cheers!
