The Average Directional Index (ADX) is a trend indicator that measures the strength and momentum of an existing trend. The main focus of this indicator is not the direction of the trend, but the momentum.
ADX is a combination of two price movement indicators, the positive directional indicator (+DI) and the negative directional indicator (-DI). +DI measures the strength of an uptrend, while -DI measures the strength of a downtrend. Both indicators are also plotted together with the ADX line.
It is sometimes difficult to determine the prevailing trend based on the relative position of the +DI and -DI values. This version uses a different display to make operation as easy as possible. ADX values are easy to compare with significance levels, and the ADX values and the color of the histogram clearly show the trend. This makes it easier to track ADX trends and values.
