This indicator was developed by Etienne Botes and Douglas Siepman. The Vortex indicator consists of two oscillators that show positive and negative trend movement, similar to the +DI and -DI lines of the Average Directional Movement Index indicator.

It has one input parameter:

 +VI = 100*svip/satr,
-VI=100*svim/satr

Where:

 svip = SMA(iVIP, period)
svim = SMA(iVIM, period)
satr = SMA(ATR, period)
iVIP = Abs (highest price - previous lowest price)
iVIM = Abs (low - previous high)
