The Variable Exponential Dynamic Average (VIDYA) technical indicator was developed by Tushar Chande.

It is an original method of calculating the exponential moving average (EMA) of the dynamic changes in the average period. The average period depends on market volatility; volatility is measured using the Chandler Momentum Oscillator (CMO).

Vidya indicator has been calculated as described by Tushar Chande. The problem really lies in the way CMO is calculated. The way CMO is usually calculated makes it rather inefficient (try longer). This version solves this problem and in terms of execution speed there is really no difference if you use short or long term, so it can be used for regular trading and testing without the danger of overcalculating.
