Found the formula calling this type of calculation "rma" on another forum. Frankly, I had no idea where "rma" came from, but decided to give it a try. Now the original formula is:
The results are logical, except for one thing: the formula tends to add too much lag. So with just a slight change - when the formula changes to:
We get a better fit, and surprisingly the average is faster than using any of the 4 base averages for the same period. So, here is our own Metatrader rma indicator
You can use it as any other average
