In the article "DMH: Improved Orienteering Indicator" in the December 2021 issue of TASC, John Ehlers explores a method to modernize orienteering using Hann windows. Directional movement has been a mainstay of technical analysis and has been a concept studied by traders for decades. When J. Welles Wilder created the original directional movement indicator, technology was not yet ready for complex calculations. Ehlers suggested it was time for an upgrade. While the DMH indicator uses Wilder's 14 bars by default, Ehlers recommends that the length should be determined by the trader or through optimization if DMH is used in a strategy.
