John Ehlers and Ward Systems Group developed cybernetic analysis applications based on the indicators described in the book Cybernetic Analysis of Stocks and Futures by John Ehlers and published by John Wiley & Sons.

The book demonstrates new and effective trading methods. These methods are based on the application of modern signal numerical processing methods to financial time series analysis. The authors claim that "this approach demonstrates their efficiency across markets exceeding the results of commercial trading systems costing hundreds or even thousands of dollars".

CyberCycle is one of the metrics presented in the book. The basic method of using this indicator involves using moving average crossovers and changes in the direction of their movement.
