Schaff Trend Periods (MetaTrader Forex Indicator) — is a cyclic oscillator created by calculating the Forex stochastic indicator on the MACD line using periods. The result is an improved version of an oscillator that does not fluctuate during market trends and reacts quickly to changes. It was developed by Mr. Doug Schaff, who believed that currency market trends accelerate and decelerate periodically. Its algorithm was made public in 2008. Schaff Trend Cycles combines two methods of determining changes in trend direction - the Forex MACD and the Smoothed Stochastic Oscillator. The value of the Forex indicator fluctuates between 0 and 100. Two trigger levels are used - 25 and 75. Provides optional chart alerts. You can download Forex indicators for MT4, MT5 and cTrader.

Input parameters

Main

MAShort (main default = 23) — period of the fast moving average used for MACD line calculation. It should be smaller than MALong .
MALong (main default = 50) — period of the slow moving average used for MACD line calculation. It should be larger than MAShort .
Cycle (default = 10) — The length of the period in the chart cycle. The resulting period is twice as long because two Forex stochastics are calculated.

Alerts

ShowArrows (main default = false) — if true , draw arrows above or below the corresponding bar where the entry signal was generated.
UpColor (main default = clrBlue) — color of the bullish signal arrow.
DownColor (main default = clrRed) — bearish signal arrow color.
ShowAlerts (main default = false) — if true, show alerts will be called when an entry signal is generated.
SoundAlerts (main default = false) — If true, sound alerts will be played when an incoming signal is generated.
Email alerts (main default = false) — if true, indicator email alerts will be sent when an entry signal is generated.
PushAlerts (main default = false) — If true, push notification alerts will be sent when an incoming signal is generated.

The simplest and most obvious way to use this Forex indicator in trading is to enter the market by selling when the line falls below the 75 level and by buying when the line rises above the 25 level. To filter out some of the worse entry signals, Mr. Doug Schaff (creator of the Schaff Trend Cycle Indicator) offers the following approach: For a buy entry signal, the bar following the trigger bar should close above the trigger bar high; for a sell entry signal, the bar after the trigger bar should close below the trigger bar low. A trigger bar is a bar formed when the Forex Schaff Trend Cycle indicator rises above 25 or falls below 75.
