If you've ever traded, you know how often prices react to previous highs and lows. They're not just arbitrary levels - they're where the big players make their decisions. I have been using the Previous High and Low Forex Indicator for MT4 as part of my setup for some time now and I can confidently say that it is one of those "simple but effective" tools that deserves a permanent spot on your charts.

No flashing arrows. No repaint gimmicks. Simply charting all-time highs and lows clearly and accurately can help you trade more intelligently, whether you're chasing a breakout or waiting for a reversal.

Previous Highs & Lows

What are the previous highs and lows of Forex indicators?

This lightweight MetaTrader 4 indicator does exactly what its name suggests: it automatically plots previous highs and lows from recent price movements. Depending on your settings, these levels can come from daily, weekly, or custom time periods.

LuxAlgo designed it and I appreciate how it marks these key areas without overwhelming the diagram. It leaves space for your strategies, S&R areas, and trend lines while working silently in the background.

Why these levels are important in trading

Previous highs and lows are key decision points in the market. These are the areas where traders historically place orders - stop loss, entry, or take profit.

Here's how I use this indicator:

Resistance turns into support (breakout strategy)

When the price breaks above the previous high and returns to retest , this high often becomes support. This is my cue to go long. I waited for the confirmation candle and then I entered the trade - the stop loss was just below that level.

Rejection of previous highs (reversal strategy)

If the price is near past highs and fails to break above it - especially in the case of a pin bar or bearish engulfing - I would consider going short. The same goes for previous lows during bullish reversals.

Mean Reversion/Range Strategy

In sideways markets, past highs and lows typically mark the top and bottom of the range. When price bounces between them, I view them as natural entry and exit areas - especially for scalping or short-term trades.

How to use it in charts

Once installed, the indicator draws horizontal lines on the chart based on previous highs and lows. The coolest part? You no longer have to manually search for these levels. They update automatically as prices change.

  • Works on all timeframes - from 1 minute to daily.
  • Use as a confluence tool along with moving averages or Fibonacci levels.
  • Helps with risk management —You will know exactly where to place your stop loss or take profit.

Combine with other tools for best results

This is my favorite combination:

  • A trend indicator (such as the 50 EMA or MACD) confirms the overall deviation.
  • Candlestick patterns (e.g. engulfing, needle bar, inside bar) at highs/lows.
  • This metric defines key reaction zones .

The result? A cleaner deal. Reduce second-guessing. Better entries.

Final Thoughts

The Previous Highs and Lows Forex Indicator for MT4 may not be flashy, but it's reliable. It brings structure and logic to your trading decisions. Whether you are a breakout trader, a trend follower, or a mean reversion scalper, knowing how prices reacted in the past gives you a significant advantage.

I find it helpful to filter out bad deal planning sniper entries . It's free, easy to use, and works well with almost any strategy you already have.

If you really want to trade clean charts with reliable data, this indicator is a no-brainer. Give it a try, test it out, and you might just keep it on your charts for a long time like I did.
