Didi Index Indicator Review 2025: The “Agulhada” Strategy & Free Download

author EAcpu | 3 reads | 0 comments |

Synopsis: Brazil’s secret to capturing explosions

Most moving average crossovers are boring. When the golden cross appears, the trend is already halfway over. But in Brazil, a man named Odir “Didi” Aguiar discovered a specific crossover pattern that could predict not just trends, but market explosions .

He called it the "Aguhada" (needle) .

The Didi Index Indicator for MetaTrader 4 (MT4) is the digital version of this famous setup. It takes three specific moving averages (3, 8 and 20) and flattens them into the oscillator window.

Rather than staring at a cluttered chart, this indicator tells you exactly when the market is "threading the needle" in preparation for a massive breakout. If you're tired of late entries, this tool will be your wake-up call.

What is Didi Index indicator?

The Didi Index is a trend following oscillator that shows the relationship between three simple moving averages (SMA):

  1. Fast: 3-Period SMA.
  2. Medium: 8-period SMA (this acts as a Zero Line or Axis).
  3. Slow: 20-Period SMA.

How about the visual effect:

In the indicator window, the 8 SMA is flattened into a straight line Zero Line (0.00) .

  • The fast line (green/blue) moves above or below the zero line.
  • The slow line (red/yellow) moves in the opposite direction.

When the threads are pinched together and then violently pulled apart, it looks like a thread passing through the eye of a needle. That’s the “Agulhada” – the moment when a consolidation turns into a trend.

NOTE: While some sources claim that this indicator measures trading volume, the classic Didi Index used by institutional traders is based solely on the 3-8-20 Moving Average formula.

Review: Pros and Cons

Is the famous "Agullhada" strategy still valid in 2025? This is our honest verdict.

✅ PROS (The Good)

  • Explosive Entries: It is specifically designed to capture the burst of power at the start , not the middle.
  • Visual Clarity: It removes the moving averages from your main chart, allowing you to clearly see price action.
  • Objective Signals: "Needle" patterns (thread convergence) are easy to spot.
  • Versatile: Suitable for stocks, forex and cryptocurrencies (Didi Aguiar originally applied it).

❌ CONS (The Bad)

  • The “Fake Needle”: In a completely flat market, the lines will knot together but never separate. You need a volatility filter (see strategy below).
  • Lag: Although the Didi Index found breakthroughs early, it is mathematically based on moving averages. Always wait for the candle to close to confirm that the "pin" pattern is locked.

Strategy: "Agullhada" Breakout System

Trading the Didi Index alone is risky as you can get stuck in a "trap" (sideways movement). To rank this strategy as the best, we added a "false detection" filter .

We will use the ADX (Average Directional Index) to confirm that there is indeed power behind the "needle".

Settings and Settings

  1. Didi Index: Settings 3, 8, 20 (Standard).
  2. ADX Indicator: Issue 14, Level 25 or Level 30 added.
  3. Bollinger Bands: Period 20, Bias 2 (main chart).
  4. Timeframe: H1 or H4 (best results).

1. “Bullish Needle” Buy Setup

We're looking for lines that tighten and then explode upward.

  1. The Setup: Look for the “Pinch.” The fast, slow, and neutral wires should be very close together (through the needle).
  2. The Trigger: Watch for the Fast Line (Green) to shoot ABOVE the zero line, while Slow Line (Red) shoots BELOW the Zero line.
    • Visual: It looks like an open mouth or open scissors.
  3. Error checking (vital): Check the ADX . ADX lines must be rising preferably across 20 or 25 levels.
    • Why? If ADX is flat or falling, this pin is useless.
  4. Bollinger Check: Price should break above the upper Bollinger Band .
  5. Entry: Buy on the close of the breakout candle.
  6. Stop Loss: Below recent consolidation lows.
  7. Take Profit: Exit when the fast line hooks back to the zero line.

2. “Bearish Pin” Sell Setup

We are looking for a voice to exit.

  1. The Setup: Look for the “Pinch” (Convergence).
  2. The Trigger: Watch for the Fast Line (Green) to shoot BELOW the zero line, while Slow Line (Red) shoots ABOVE the Zero line.
  3. The False Check: Check the ADX . It must be Rising (showing strong trend strength).
    • Note: ADX rises for both uptrends and downtrends.
  4. Bollinger Check: The price should break through the lower Bollinger Band .
  5. Entry: Sell on the close of the breakout candle.
  6. Stop Loss: Above recent consolidation highs.
  7. Take Profit: Exit when the fast line hooks back to the zero line.

Pro Tip: The best trades occur when the Bollinger Bands are "squeezed" (narrowed) before the Didi Index issues a breakout signal.

Indicator Settings: Magic Numbers

When you open the Didi Index input, you will see three MA settings. Do not change these if you want to trade real strategies.

  • Prd_1 (Fast): 3 (represents short-term momentum).
  • Prd_2 (Slow): 20 (represents the long-term trend).
  • Prd_3 (Medium): 8 (this is the "axis" or mean).

Note: Some versions allow you to change the MA method (simple, exponential). Didi Aguiar originally used the Simple Moving Average (SMA) , but many modern traders prefer the Exponential (EMA) for faster reaction.

Frequently Asked Questions: Frequently Asked Questions

Why is a line straight?

That is the 8-period moving average . This indicator flattens it to zero so that you can easily see how the 3 and 20 MA move relative to it.

Can I use this on M1?

Yes, but the "needle" is less reliable due to noise. We recommend the M15 and H1 for the cleanest breakout.

What if the lines don't cross perfectly?

That's fine. As long as they are "pinched" very close and then explode outward, the signal is valid. It's about compression of energy.

Final verdict: Is it worth using?

Score: 4.5/5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐🌗

The Didi Index indicator is a legendary tool for a reason. It simplifies one of the most effective market concepts: volatility compression .

By visualizing the "needle" it helps you stay out of volatile markets and only enter when the moving average lines up with a big move. Just remember to use ADX Filter to verify explosions!
