Breakout strategy EMA recommended? (Breakout Strategy EMAs Recommendation?)
Hello,
This is a great forum.
Please see attachment.
Any ideas on an EMA that I can use on a 3 minute chart so that I can determine the trend for a breakout strategy?
Do traders just try all EMA combinations to see what works? Manual backtesting can take a long time.
If not, I would test the 10, 20, 50 and 100 EMAs to get an idea of the correct trend before placing any breakout trades.
Well, I recently adopted a discretionary trading breakout strategy and had some success (paper trading) with my resistance and support lines without any indicators. I look at price direction every morning through intraday trades to define the trend.
If the price is rising, go long on the next resistance level breakout; if the price is bearish, go short on the next support level breakout.
Ok, now I want to program and validate my strategy and backtest it on more than 10 years of historical data, but I can't identify the trend logically/mathematically to program it. I can't program my eyes.
I figured if I programmed the strategy, I could try many different EMA combinations during automated backtesting. Maybe I need to learn to write my strategies to speed up backtesting.
Thanks,
