As Easy as "PI" (As Easy as "PI") | Forex Indicator Download - MT4/MT5 Resources
EDIT: Major revisions to the system starting after #500
Well, we have a brand new year. I wish you all the best for the coming trading year and beyond.
I decided to start another thread to share strategies that I have recently tried with some success. I learned a lot at FF, so if other people can benefit in some small way, that would be great.
But first, the standard disclaimer:
This thread is not a signal service. I don't disclose my trade entries and exits. Do not trade on a live account. If you do this, you may lose all your money! You have been warned.
So now... continuing is as simple as "PI"
PI is a simple trend following system using moving averages, it is not complex, nor is it a radical new idea. Just my inclination towards some old standbys.
I only trade PI on the daily chart. I know a lot of people will ask if it works on other time frames, so let me answer that first.
The answer is I don't know. I haven't really tried it yet. I stick to daily because I think this is where you get the long-term trends to profit from this system. It also fits my trading schedule very well.
history:
As I'm sure many of you are, I have tried many systems and indicators to try and catch good entry and exit opportunities into the major trends. I think that's where the money is, or at least a big part of it.
I've played around with a lot of indicators that seem to do a better or worse job of showing trends.
Finally, I got a simple MACD crossover using the values in "PI", hence the name. As you probably know, PI expressed as a decimal is 22/7. So...I use MACD with 22 as the slow MA and 7 as the fast MA. (I'll let you more esoteric types think about the cosmic significance of this)
I enter when MACD crosses the zero line and close/reverse when MACD crosses the other line.
Take a look at the EURUSD daily chart for the past few years below.
Some really good trends can be captured this way.
So the purpose of this post is to discuss strategy. I will try my best to answer any questions. I'm not looking to implement wholesale changes, and certainly not to add multiple indicators to filter trades. For every bad deal you filter out, you probably filter out one good deal.
That being said, there are always improvements that can be implemented, and you all may have some valuable insights.
More information on trade setups, trade overlays and money management will be released soon.
