Phoenix 2007 (new thread) - MT4/MT5 resources
It's time to start a new thread about <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><st1lacew:st="on">phoenix</st1lace></st1:city>. We named it "Phoenix <st1:metricconverter w:st="on" ProductID="2007"">2007"</st1:metricconverter>. Because Phoenix 2007 is not finished yet, you can find the latest version (4.2) here. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o>

What's the idea behind Phoenix 2007: <o></o>
<o></o>
I am one of those people who believes that everything in this world follows some kind of natural law. These regular effects are called patterns or cycles, and they seem to repeat over and over again. Some of these patterns or cycles are well known: seasonal changes, day and night, cycles of life and death, phases of the moon, and so on. If you understand these patterns, you can predict the future. We all agree that after summer comes winter. Is Forex also subject to these laws? Yes, I believe so. <o></o>
<o></o>
When we study charts (in the past) through technical analysis, we try to find those repeating patterns, assuming that when these patterns repeated themselves in the past, they will repeat themselves in the future. There is only one drawback to looking for patterns on charts: we can only find patterns that are visible to the naked eye. My point is: I believe there are many more patterns in Forex than what you see on a chart! We call them "hidden modes". This is where MT4 and its strategy tester come into play. By using the power of a PC and MT4, it seems possible to find those "hidden patterns". You can't see this pattern on the charts, they just show you the particular combination of settings that will give you the best net profit. <o></o>
<o></o>
That's the idea behind Phoenix2007: keep testing and changing until you find that special combination of settings that gives you a smooth balance curve. There is no doubt that this equilibrium curve will continue to move in the same direction for at least the next four to eight weeks because the laws that have led to this situation will not stop or change. The only thing to do is to do a backwards test every two weeks to see if the settings are still up to date. <o></o>
<o></o>
I know some people would call this "curve fitting" or "over-optimizing" the EA. And it seems that most people think this is undesirable. It seems to me that there is nothing wrong with "curve fitting" in this case. More on this later. <o></o>
<o></o>
I made a special version of <st1:City w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Phoenix</st1lace></st1:City> to participate in the "Automated Trading Championship <st1:metricconverter w:st="on" ProductID="2006"">2006"</st1:metricconverter>. <o></o>
Go to http://championship.mql4.com/2006/participants if you want to follow the results. The little guy in second place, "Hendrik", was me. <o></o>
<o></o>
Now some "rules of the game": <o></o>
<o></o>
You can change the code for <st1:City w:st="on"><st1lacew:st="on">Phoenix</st1lace></st1:City> if you want, but please don't post it in this thread! <o></o>
<o></o>
Some of you will go and test (I hope) <st1:City w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Phoenix</st1lace></st1:City> and will come up with different settings. It's not that I don't trust your setup, but I really want to test these in my own way first. If they are better I will replace the official settings with yours. This is to prevent looping through too many settings in the thread and no one ends up knowing which settings have to be used. <o></o>
<o></o>
Warning: <o></o>
<o></o>
The combination of currency pairs, TimeFrame, TP, SL, etc. settings are in a "balanced" state. If you change one of these settings without changing the other settings, the balance will disappear and you won't get the results you want, so changing one of the settings means you have to use the strategy tester to find another combination of settings to restore the balance again. <o></o>

Phoenix_EA_v4_2_01.mq4
EA itself. The 2007 version will be available soon. Currently, the currency pair settings are hard-coded in the EA. The last two numbers will change every time the settings change (so next time the EA will be renamed to Phoenix_EA_v4_2_02) <o></o>
Official settings 2006_10_8.txt
<st1:City w:st="on"><st1's latest setting lace w:st="on">Phoenix</st1 lace></st1:City>. Look at the date at the end (format YYYY_MM_DD). You have to copy and paste these settings in the EA or you can install the latest version of the mq4 file where I will change the settings for the pairing. <o></o>
<o></o>
<o></o>
Well, that's it. Let's work together to improve Phoenix 2007!
=========Update==========================
2006.10.9
New version Phoenix_EA_v4_2_02. Fixed an issue with some mini accounts where brokers used "m" after the currency pair (so USDJPYm instead of USDJPY).
