MTF Trend-Pullback Trading - MT4/MT5 Resources
I learned a lot about trading - both systems and psychology - from the Forex Factory forums. I came to this site when I had been trading for a while and was able to find many, many gems that I could incorporate into my own approach.
I believe in the adage "the trend is your friend" and I also know from experience that it is impossible to pick exact bottoms and tops (sometimes I get lucky). Therefore, in addition to "buy low and sell high", I prefer "buy strong and sell weak". To do this, I look for a trending currency pair, then jump into the trend when its strength increases, and exit the sidelines when it weakens - a very classic Multiple Time Frame ("MTF") approach as far as I know.
For the sake of simplicity, I prefer to use the same indicator on both trend and entry time frames. However, I did try different settings for each indicator, as I wanted the trend timeframe to be slow and steady to avoid jagged fluctuations, and the entry/exit timeframe to be fast and flexible to give me plenty of trading opportunities.
Through posts and private messaging, I try to give back and help others with their problems and learning process, just like I've been helped before. Now it's time to post a description of my own trading system in hopes of getting feedback and improvements to my ideas, and that it can help other new and experienced traders with their own methods. This is also a continuous learning process for me. Writing content in the accompanying PDF document has been a great experience. Things can always be improved, so I'm excited to see what kind of feedback this generates.
I had originally planned to keep the metrics and system descriptions, as well as screenshots etc., for the next article and edit the article as updates become available so that it always contains the latest version of everything.
Same as post #4 for screenshots of my current setup and post #3 for old indicators and documentation versions that have been retired but still useful. Article 3 may not always be complete.
But... I just discovered that posts can only be edited for a certain period of time before they become "stable". Apparently the first post remains editable, but I'm not sure about that now.
As long as I can edit the first post, I'll put the relevant attachments here, maybe in a ZIP archive if the maximum number of seven attachments is exceeded. I (as of March 1st) no longer have access to posts 2 to 4 for editing.
To preempt the inevitable requests, I won't be publishing my templates, only screenshots for reference and custom metrics. If you like what you see, build your own template. This will help get familiar with the indicator and its settings and ensure you can make the system your own. It also provides the freedom to modify elements that don't fit your own style.
I invite discussions about live trading, on the other hand I will not post my own account statements or comment on how the system performed for me (posting here would be enough). My own performance does not reflect the system's performance on others. Based on momentum, there are no clear alerts or trading signals, performance depends on the trading session and trading pair as well as the selected time frame. Therefore, I will limit my input to cover things like pairing selection, time frame, and general experience with the session. I want to share ideas rather than trade for someone and then have to feel bad about the inevitable losses that happen from time to time.
That being said, I trade (not demo) full time for a living.
