We would like to post this in memory of our friend, the late FF member rockypoint. Although our approaches differ greatly, we share a love for trading, the Forex Factory, and living our best life. My friend, I miss you and feel your absence every day.

Many people are still confused as to what this clue really means. Jump to post #1492 so you can discover its true nature. If what you read there makes sense to you, then the topic is probably worth your effort and time to read and engage with. If what you read there makes no sense, or you just think it's wrong or even ridiculous, then you can save your time and energy by ignoring this thread entirely.

What makes this thread different from the others is that in order for someone to really understand what's going on, he or she has to watch the video, at least the first video, and then the last two or three videos. This means that this thread requires more time and effort than a traditional FF thread. It's not for everyone.

If you have not taken the time to watch the video and do not understand the MeBob rules that define the setup, please do not post charts and trading comments in this post. If you have an ego that needs to be satisfied, eat elsewhere. The central topic of this thread is the MeBob method found in post #2. If you post charts and trading comments that do not meet MeBob standards, please bring them to the trading discussion thread. This is a system thread dedicated to a specific system.

Recently, I was reintroduced to an S&P 500 day trading strategy called the "MeBob Strategy" that originated over 30 years ago.

Shortly after I started trading, I joined a trading room on a website called avidtraderDOTcom. I don't know why he shut down his service, but sometime in the late 2000s, Avidtrader shut down his trading room. There are a lot of good traders out there, and there are also quite a few hungry newbies like me (Tom Hougaard, known to some of you as "TraderTom" and author of The Best Losers Win, was one of these hungry newbies at the time!).

One of the more experienced members is named MeBob. He proposed a method aptly called the "Mebob method," which was based on the use of what he called the reference column. The specific reference bar is the five-minute bar on the S&P 500 that opens at 10:05 AM ET and closes at 10:10 AM ET. After all these years, the concept of having and using a reference column remains part of my own approach to discovery.

This post exists because last weekend I was "cleaning out" my Gmail account (which is almost as old as my trading job) and I found an old email I sent to myself about the Mebob trading method. I then looked online for information about MeBob to see if he was active somewhere and unfortunately what I found was his obituary. He died in 2023, just months before his 88th birthday.

I decided to create a "mebob" template in Ninjatrader, and after some cursory visual backtesting, I decided that since I usually complete my main trading tools and methods before or shortly after the NYSE opens each day, I would explore the MeBob method, but I would do so using the price action concepts I have learned since my early days in trading. These price action concepts I learned primarily from studying Al Brooks and Bob Volman, and I do not give any credit to MeBob or the price action concepts I will use in exploring a hybrid of the two, which I rather unkindly refer to as the "PriceBob method."

@bluesteele found the Tom Hougaard documentation online, where TraderTom retains some elements of the original MeBob method. You can read and download the document (MeBob discussion on pages 28 - 41) via this link: Tribute to the Avid Trader.docx

I'll post a copy of the original MeBob rules in my next post on this topic.

I will take the MeBob reference bar and adapt it to a more price action oriented approach to entering and managing trades: hence, the "PriceBob Method".

I intend to work on recording live transactions in ES using this hybrid approach for at least the next few weeks. The method itself is a "work in progress". I welcome others to post and share their own attempts to incorporate the MeBob method into their own trading. For the record, I am not an "anti-indicator" trader. However, in keeping with the spirit of the original MeBob method and its creator, I ask that you refrain from adding moving averages, oscillators, and other derived wavy lines to the charts in this thread. The focus should be on using MeBob reference bars and the price action itself to identify and manage trades. I thank everyone in advance for keeping the spirit of MeBob alive!

Here is a video I made on how to identify MeBob reference bars and try to demonstrate some of the price action concepts I intend to use with the PriceBob method.
