MA Cross Indicator Overview
The MA Cross indicator shows the market trend as a blue linear oscillator oscillating around the zero line.
Its behavior changes as the position of the moving averages shifts, causing the blue line to move around zero, clearly indicating the direction of the trend and its possible changes.
This trading tool consists of two parts: Simple Moving Average :
- Fast SMA : has 4 period settings;
- Slow SMA : Has a 14-period setting.
Indicators are in an upward trend
The chart below shows the AUD/CAD currency pair on a 30-minute time frame. When the fast moving average (4 periods) crosses above the slow moving average (14 periods), the blue oscillator moves above zero.
This behavior is considered the beginning of an uptrend and signals increased buying pressure in the market.

Indicators are in a downward trend
The chart below shows gold spot (XAU/USD) on the 1 hour time frame. When the fast moving average (4-period) is below the slow moving average (14-period), it indicates that the trend may have reversed to the downside.
In this case, the moving average crossover oscillator fell below zero, signaling the beginning of a bearish trend and providing a sell entry area.

The MA Cross indicator is a trend following technical tool based on the crossing of two moving averages of different time periods (4 and 14 candles), acting as a linear oscillator centered on the zero axis.
When the oscillator crosses above zero, it indicates an uptrend; when it falls below zero, it indicates a downtrend.
